We are dedicated to providing our customers with quality craftsmanship and superior parts. Every single component has been manufactured to true vintage specs, butyrate bobbins, solid nickel silver baseplates, time-correct carbon alloys for the polepieces and keeper bars, rough cast AlNiCo magnets produced to our own specification. Same exact quality goes for the Black Arts Series, no detail is neglected. Each pickup is hand wound by the same techs who helped design it, one by one the get wax potted if necessary, polished and packaged. We do not pre-wind the bobbins for future assembly, everything is made to order the same day including our cables and wiring harnesses.
Who we are
WHAT IS DARKMOON
Darkmoon started out as a side hobby of a few musicians and friends from Brooklyn, NY. Just like any guitarist, the founder Mark V fell into the black hole of modifying his workhorse guitar to achieve a unique tone, a tone that does not come standard from the factory and is not played on endless records we all know and love. Unique is the keyword of our company, even the big pickup companies with wide selections of after-market pickups are slowly becoming the standard of the guitar world and we still have a box of those “custom” pickups somewhere in the shop, just for the memories. So what makes us different from the rest, you ask? It’s all in the hand, factory made guitar pickups cannot even come close to the sound of a hand wound humbucker. By eliminating automatic machine traverse winding, we are able to create unique coil pattern that drastically affect the tone, almost as if the pickup had a soul, may it be a sweet soul of a classic P.A.F humbucker, or a sinister monstrous tube saturating beasts of Doom Metal. This company has been using a DIY approach from the start and we are not stopping anytime soon. From hand buffing nickel covers to laser etching our logo onto the packaging boxes, it is all done in the shop. We only use American made parts, not only for the superior quality purpose, but to support the very few domestic manufacturers. We believe that the build quality has to be on par with the tone, that is why we are not planning on mass producing our product. Think of us as a secret fraternal organization for musicians minus the conspiracies and world domination. If you feel like you’ve reached a dead end of the sound of your setup, or perhaps just interested in exploring your options and taking your sound to the next level, we are confident that you will not regret joining Darkmoon. Our team will be there for you during every step of your transition. Whether you need guidance in the Custom Shop, or just having trouble picking out the perfect series for your playing style, we are an e-mail away.
